Dual Language

We are thrilled to offer the Spanish dual language program at our school.

Fifth and sixth-grade students currently enrolled in dual language at Hilltop will be automatically enrolled in the dual language program at Glacier Middle School in fall 2019. The program is also open to fifth and sixth-grade students with strong Spanish skills from Beverly Park, Cedarhurst, Seahurst, and Southern Heights.

Dual language will be offered in eighth grade at Glacier in 2020-21.

Program Structure

Students in our dual language program receive half of their instruction in English and half in Spanish, including Spanish language arts, taught by qualified bilingual teachers. Dual language students will also participate in a bilingual advisory class. The program includes native speakers of English, Spanish and many other languages.

Goals

The goals of the dual language program are to help students:

  • Become bilingual and biliterate, developing high levels of proficiency in two languages.
  • Perform at or above grade level in academic areas in both languages.
  • Demonstrate multicultural and critical awareness.
